she's coming...

the countdown begins.
7 days left.
we can't wait.
i'm sure whitaker will enjoy not being the smallest cousin any more.
{not that he was ever small}

so if you have a second,
whisper a prayer for my sister and soon-to-be newborn niece.
may her arrival be smooth and swift!
i promise to post an update as soon as i get the news!

Please Pray for Stellan

A fellow blogger, aka MckMama, is desperately seeking prayers for her 7 month old son who suffers from SVT. Click on the link above to read more about her story. I love following her blog- she is an amazing writer and more importantly, a wife and mother who loves the Lord.

day without daddy

Today was our first day with our new summer schedule. daddy-o leaving the house before Whitaker awakes and home well after he goes to bed. Of course, it's 8:30 and Whitaker is making it well known (from his crib) that he has no intention of falling asleep before daddy comes home, if he has anything to do with it.
Joel and I are so grateful that he found a full time job minutes from the regional campus where he is taking summer classes. Work is 8-5 then class from 7:30 to 10:30 (M-R). No complaints, but it will be yet another transition we'll have to deal with. Whitaker and Joel have become quite inseparable as of late.

Good news, Whitaker seemed to have done some catching up with his peers and no longer INSTANTLY gags upon attempting to swallow an already mostly dissolved puff (dissoluble cherrio of sorts). Anywho, baby steps. It was a big deal. I was starting to think Whitaker was going to end up on a liquid diet till he was two!

Oswald

....kicked me in the booty. If you've never heard of 'My Utmost for His Highest' by Oswald Chambers, I highly suggest you run to the nearest bookstore and purchase it. pronto. It is a book with 365 devotionals, each one you could read over and over and over and over again and find an 'Ah-Ha' moment every time you read it. It's almost ridiculous. I know seasoned followers of Christ who have been reading it everyday for over 20 years.

Anywho, back to my 'Ah-Ha' moment...

Life has been more than just stressful. To many life changes at one time is not a good thing. Married. Pregnant. Move again. Baby. Move once more. Parents Basement. Unemployed. Full-Time Student. {and somehow still married. yes, there are many a day that this fact is a miracle.} I don't say that to degrade Joel in anyway- it's more about the fact that I haven't gone completely nuts and run away to Tahiti. (though, even if I did steal all of Joel's money, I don't think i could afford the plane ticket to get there}. That being said, I must admit that there have been weeks where I have not been on speaking terms with God. The range of emotions that run their course through my brain each day can literally be physically draining. Over exaggerated? Maybe. But that's how I feel sometimes.

{Enter Oswald Chambers}

In this weekend's quiet times when reading 'My Utmost For His Highest' I have felt the gentle but LOUD voice of God calling me back, to place all my cares upon Him. In fear of sounding cliche, letting go and letting God. After reading, and re-reading the past several days worth of devotionals, I ran out of arguments as to why I thought I could survive the next 22 months not on my knees, asking Christ to carry me through each and every day.

June 11. Matthew 11:28 "Come unto Me."
"'...And I will give you rest." i.e. I will stay you. Not- I will put you to bed and hold your hand and sing you to sleep; but--I will get you out of bed, out of the languor and exhaustion, out of the state of being half dead while you are alive; I will imbue you with the spirit of life, and you will be stayed by the perfection of vital activity."

June 12. John 1:38,39,43 "Master, where dwellest Thou?...Come and see.. Follow Me"
"... spiritual measles. In sections we look all right. When we have our best spiritual mood on, you would think we were high-toned saints; but don' t look at us when are not in that mood...Make no conditions, let Jesus be everything, and He will take you home with Him not only for a day, but forever."

June 13 Mark 1:7 "Come ye after Me."
"The saint realizes that it is God who engineers circumstances, consequently there is no whine, but a reckless abandon to Jesus."

June 14 John 15:4 "Abide in Me"
"It does not matter what my circumstances are, I can be as sure of abiding in Jesus in them as in a prayer meeting...He (Jesus Christ) never chose His own circumstances, but was meek towards His Father's dispensations for Him...Determine to abide in Jesus where ever you are placed."

Thank You God. and Oswald.

Day 1 w/o Disposable Diapers

Here it is, just as I promised. *CHEERS* to Whitaker and I for doing our part in making the landfills of 'America the Beautiful' a little less stinky.

English Patient

Watching it now. For some reason I was under the impression I had seen the movie- but I guess not. Thanks to the Ohio libraries with an extensive DVD collection and free rental. Why is it though that 80% of the titles they have are the 1960's version. Or, as I'm sure they would defend, the "originals". Rubbish. The only 'original' Ocean's 11 is the one with George Clooney, truly.

It's still not warm, or even hot here. I miss that, waking up without goose bumps. Shoot- even sweating. It's the beginning of June and it suppose to be in the 40's at night this weekend. Now I assume that in the grand scheme of things- that is something that is truly rubbish.

So, Ohio has a cold climate, but oh so many warm individuals. I've been able to meet more new people here than anywhere in such a short period of time. Granted having a kiddo helps meet other people with kiddos and we had a jump start considering I grew up in the area, but still. We have been invited to grill out this weekend, play group on Tuesday and another play date later in the week. Not to be like a second grader who counts her success by the amount of stickers she traded at lunch hour from her 'friends', but we don't necessarily live 'stress' free lives right now, and and any moment to escape in good conversation is always appreciated.

thanks friends.

someone once said, a post isn't a post without a picture. joel snapped this while whitaker was sleeping one afternoon.

life as i know it.

Things on the home front have busy. very busy. All I have to tell you is that Whitaker pulled himself up for the first time this evening, and you can pretty much figure out the rest. The kid is getting into everything, and he hasn't even started crawling yet. Yes, I know- we're not even "at the beginning" of Whitaker literally taking over and going a million miles an hour, but we're approaching the starting gate quickly.
Only other baby news is that I ordered my first batch of cloth diapers this afternoon. I've been waiting until I got low on disposables before taking the plunge. In the beginning I actually used cloth diapers my sister had passed down to me, but Whitaker (of course) quickly grew out of them and I never got more. This is just another creative way I'm trying to slim down on our budget. I'm taking the inexpensive route and purchased prefolds and diaper covers. For Joel's sake, I did splurge and I bought a couple of fitted diapers (the same thing as a disposable diaper, but with velcro. they act like a prefold and you still have to put a cover over them). Of course, for everything I bought, I got it in the brightest colors possible. Why not? I figure if I have to wash these thing day in and day out, they might as well be bright. Again, I'll save (more than you ever wanted to know about) the diaper details for a later post. Maybe I'll do - Day 1 with w/o Disposable Diapers.
{and to be fair, I'm cheating. I don't plan on using them at night, long outings or even on trips}

Well, that's about it. Oh- and what about "us". Not that you care as much (wink), but Joel and I are on the hunt for full-time jobs. At the moment, the first one who gets a job sets the schedule. Please pray that in the midst {of what sometimes feels like a free fall} we seek the Lord's plan for our lives, especially when we know we'll be susceptible to giving into desperation and taking what ever gets handed to us.
Been there, done that and DON'T want to do it again!

Enjoy your week!!!
